Case study Chapter 1 Ikaria

TThe case study of the Greek island of Ikaria, highlights the significance of the festivities/ festivals (“panigyria”) because their performance is a supreme expression of the sense of belonging to the community and the solidarity of their members according to the decision of the Greek Ministry of Culture to include them in the Intangible Heritage List. Ikaria is also included in the world’s five Blue Zones where people live longer following a Mediterranean diet and cultivating their land producing their own products.
