Life in a World Heritage City A case study of discussions and contested values in Angra do Heroísmo, the Azores. Linkopings Universitet (Sweden).

Life in a World Heritage City (Johansson, 2015) critically maps and analyses how World Heritage status is debated and negotiated in Angra do Heroísmo (Azores, Portugal). Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork and qualitative interviews, it examines how stakeholders mobilise contested values, interests, rhetoric, and power in everyday governance, conservation, and development. The thesis highlights the social processes and consequences of managing a lived-in World Heritage city.
